University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) Emergency Department & ICU Is Transferring Critical Patients with Greater Confidence

30th October 2026

When University Hospitals Dorset's critical care and emergency teams went looking for a better way to manage patient transfers, they found it in our Illustrious Healthcare Solutions Critical Care Transfer Stack.

Emergency departments and intensive care units don't have the luxury of predictability. These departments operate in a state of constant readiness for whatever comes through the door next. That demands equipment that can keep pace, and when University Hospitals Dorset’s (UHD) Emergency and Critical Care teams went looking for a better way to manage patient transfers, they found it in our Illustrious Healthcare Solutions Critical Care Transfer Stack.

3 units have now been purchased and are in use at UHD, with the team reporting that things are going really well and that the stacks have been brilliant, with only positive feedback received so far.

Equipment That Keeps Up with Critical Care

ICU patients are among the most complex to move. Multiple infusions running simultaneously, ventilatory support, continuous monitoring, none of that can be

interrupted during a transfer. Emergency patients present a similar challenge, where the decision to move can happen quickly and with little preparation time. Having to reconfigure equipment or manage multiple devices independently during that process introduces friction at precisely the moment when clinical teams can least afford it.

CCTS addresses that directly. Because it mounts to the bed the patient is already in, rather than requiring a transfer to a separate system, the process of preparing a patient for an internal move becomes considerably more straightforward. All essential equipment, including monitoring systems, ventilators, infusion devices, suction units, and oxygen cylinders, attaches securely to the unit and travels with the patient as a single, organised platform. For an emergency department where speed and safety have to coexist, that's a meaningful practical advantage.

The multi-bed interface is particularly relevant across both emergency and ICU settings, where the range of beds in use can vary considerably.

How UHD Came to Select the CCTS

The procurement process at UHD involved a direct comparison with another in the market, and our CCTS was selected on the strength of its build quality, the standard of its construction, and the safety benefits it offered for patients during transfer. Those were the factors that mattered to the team there, and those are the factors that our CCTS was specifically designed to address.

The unit is manufactured from marine grade stainless steel and aluminium alloys, finished in a gloss white antimicrobial medical grade powder coat, giving it the kind of resilience that busy critical care and emergency environments require. It's built to be used daily across demanding clinical conditions and still perform reliably over a long operational life. We know that in an environment where equipment takes a considerable amount of wear, that build standard is a baseline requirement.

UHD also noted the level of support provided by our teams at Illustrious Healthcare Solutions throughout the process. From initial enquiry through to installation guidance and technical advice during setup, the team worked closely with the hospital to ensure the units were ready for clinical use and that staff felt confident operating them from the outset. That kind of hands-on support matters particularly in intensive care and emergency settings, where there isn't always time for extended onboarding or troubleshooting after the fact.

Finding Out More About the CCTS for Your Department

If you're responsible for procurement in an emergency department, an ICU, or any acute setting where internal patient transfers are a regular part of clinical life, the experience at UHD shows that the CCTS is a great solution. 3 units were ordered after a competitive evaluation from the team at UHD. It's now in active use in one of the south of England's busiest emergency departments, with clinical staff recognising the build quality and patient safety benefits firsthand.

At Illustrious Healthcare Solutions we work directly with procurement teams and clinical leads to provide full product specifications and guidance on service options. The support that UHD highlighted doesn't stop at the point of purchase, it continues for as long as you need it.
