In 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team at Illustrious Healthcare Solutions (IHS) were tasked by a local NHS Trust. The remit was to design, manufacture and supply a bed-space trolley to facilitate patient care in surge areas as a result of COVID-19 pressures on local services. This product had to have a lectern top for paper charts, a drawer, storage shelves, and be mobile. This unit became IHS's Medical Chart Cabinet (MCC). 30 units were supplied in the first bulk order. These units were mobilised as required, being used in a number of theatre recovery areas; retrofitted as ICU bed spaces over the period.​

The MCC was specifically developed to be durable, easy to clean, and have a long life cycle. Infection control was a primary concern for the design teams at IHS. The unit comes with an antimicrobial powder coat finish resistant to common healthcare cleaning products; giving the product a unique and clean look.​

There should be no need for replacement parts including drawers for the intended life cycle of the product; which is a minimum of 3 years based on normal wear and tear. 4 lockable castors are included.​

The MCC is an all aluminium construction by design, vastly reducing the use of plastics and therefore providing a more sustainable product.​
